She’s in Bauhaus – “STaY SiCK Tour”

The Green Door Store, Brighton. 23rd August 2021 – She’s In Bauhaus live in Brighton

The Green Door store on 23 August 2021 held what was promised to be an exciting double band night replicating Bauhaus and The Cramps. The UK wide tour was put together by those lovely folk at Mutant Movement Productions. Brighton was the last night of the Tour. These guys had to postpone numerous gigs and tours planned for the UK due to the Pandemic. The Green Door Store was pretty near full of people waiting to see what was about to be unleashed and to hear some great music.

Jack – voice, Jess on guitar, Billy on Guitar, Chris on Drums and Harrison on bass guitar. Black was the predominant colour of the band members. They looked great.

Bauhaus receive the ultimate tribute, She’s In Bauhaus made up with members from the UK & USA, having had original Bauhaus members in the audience like David J & Kevin Haskins who said “Jack’s voice and  moves made me forget I was not watching Peter Murphy on stage from my drum kit”. After doing some pre gig research, I have to agree, Jack was absolutely stunning.

Jack had the look and the sound, and nailed it down perfectly. Dressed in an open chested leather and black number, and leather jeans, all topped off with a black cloak and some spectacular shades. The hair piled up high and held in place after emerging from a cloud of hairspray. Jack was so gracious he even had time for a quick chat whilst preparing from within the spray cloud.

The Set

It was pretty close to the 42 anniversary of the Bauhaus release of Bela Lugosi’s Dead, so this tour was perfectly timed in that respect. Some may argue that this single release was the Birth of Goth?

Jack handed me a copy of the set list as I only really know the bigger Bauhaus hits.  A short wait and the announcer, Tzina Dovve(DJ Lady Davinia)  stepped onto the stage introducing the band and Bela Lugosi’s Dead. The band already in place as Jack bounced out onto the stage. He smiled and started up the vocals, the Green Door Store literally held its breath waiting to hear those tones. Jack started and we all breathed out. Hell this guy is good, real good!

Dark Entries, Burning From The Inside, and The Passion Of Lovers were fired up. Jack seemed to be full of energy, you would not have guessed this was the last night of a UK wide tour. He looked and sounded just great!

Jack, struck poses for the audience and constantly stalked the stage with a brooding intensity, often looking directly into the lighting. He would inject some fabulous humour during the set and would from time to time interact with the crowd. At times jack would mount the equipment and climb the lighting rig to deliver the lyrics with pure theatricality.

Other tracks on the set included Silent Hedges, Slice of Life and Lagarta Nick.

Jacks voice sliced through the Green Door Store. It demonstrated both the singer’s absolute vocal power and control. This vocal performance was even more impressive considering this was the last night of a pretty extensive tour.

Kudos to the band, they were on point as they delivered Kick In The Eye and Silent Hedges. A fine selection of musicians who actually seemed to be enjoying themselves, cracking an occasional smile at the humour from Jack and taking part in the onstage banter.

Two songs finished this set, No Big Deal and the superb cover of Bowies Ziggy Stardust. It was a fairly short set, but the guys gave a great flavour of the music and performance of Bauhaus.

The band took a bow to an appreciative round of applause from the crowd. What we had witnessed was brilliant and down right good fun. Bauhaus fans filled the Green Door Store for the “concert” tonight that they perhaps thought they would never see!

What was next…… The night had only just begun!

That was a terrific set – well played! Jack Atlantis, as Peter Murphy, as surmised by former Bauhaus members was spot on. The theatrics and vocals were astonishing. He absolutely delivered it tonight from the second he set foot on stage till the very end. If you get the chance to see these guys – go see ’em!
