Limehouse Lizzy breakout from lockdown and head into town!

Limehouse Lizzy: Chalk Live, Brighton 25 November 2021.

Limehouse Lizzy

Now in their 3rd decade, Limehouse Lizzy continue to keep the spirit of Celtic rock icon Philip Lynott and his band Thin Lizzy alive, still-relevant and dominating stages worldwide.

From their official PRS/Billboard award, performing for Virgin Atlantic in Barbados, tv appearances (BBC 2โ€™s โ€˜Arenaโ€™ amongst others), and to being recruited to record and tour by none other than original Thin Lizzy member Brian Robertson (Thin Lizzy, Motorhead), Limehouse Lizzy have broken out from lockdown!

Considering how early this even started it was good to see the venue busy with rockers and glam rock fans. As guests of The Sweet (read about that here) we gathered together to roll back the years in front of one of the legendary Thin Lizzy tribute bands, and later with Sweet.

Due to the early start catching me out I missed the first couple of songs! But I walked into a very busy Chalk venue to be greeted by their energy and sounds!

I missed the opener they blasted out to the crowd with that late 70s hit Jailbreak. But as I understand Limehouse Lizzy had the crowd from the off. A look at the set list showed I missed another two cracking tracks Waiting For An Alibi and the face melter Do Anything You Want To. I had been informed the band would be on at 7pm, they actually had stepped outย  onto the Chalk stage at 6:45pm. I got there just before 7pm. Damn shame would have loved to see them doing Jailbreak.

I got there as the band were half way through Don’t Believe a Word and it sounded great! Then with a lot of energy, edge, and a heavy duty bass line punch we were treated to Dancing In The Moonlight.

Up next just one of my favourite songs, after some band-crowd banter, was the all out rocker Rosalie, which I think I first heard on the Live and Dangerous album. At least I didn’t miss that one. I remember the Phil Lynott intro to that “written by Bob Segar”, and Wayne Ellis with this was pretty much spot on. Consider that one nailed guys – a stunning rendition. And welcomed with a huge cheer from the crowd.

James Roberts had a chance to step forward out of the smoke for a rendition of Out In The Fields. Some super guitar playing held the audience with this Gary Moore/Phil Lynott classic, and it gave everyone a chance to catch their breath. Limehouse Lizzy have hammered it home for the performance I had been able to catch, they were hitting it home with every song. And you could tell they were enjoying it as much as the large crowd.

Them wild-eyed boys…

They built to a resounding finish tonight as the powerful ballad subsided they of course chose to close with an absolute classic The Boys Are Back in Town.ย  Its one of those songs everybody knows. The crowd sang their hearts out and then continued to make a huge racket when it was announced that was all. This short but oh so sweet set had come to an end. Almost.

Encore!

The guitars started up and we had our wishes granted for one more song, with a memorable encore performance of Whiskey in the Jar. Astonishing set. They promised to return with a full on show with pyrotechnics and everything else. This was met with a huge cheer, and Limehouse Lizzy left the stage. The crowd satiated for all things Lizzy.
