Gig Review: Little Triggers gave us a masterclass in intense energy performance. We got fuzzy blues/rock guitar riffs and some volume!
Blue Door Music Productions: Little Triggers – Prince Albert, Brighton 6 December 2021.
Thanks to the awesome team from Blue Door Music Productions who let me in with the camera to the Prince Albert. I got there a bit early as I really enjoy a chat with these guys. A huge blast for a sound check echoed down Trafalgar Street as I arrived and thus confirmed that the “sound” was there along with the Little Triggers intensity.
I have been a massive fan of this band in both their formats. These guys have blown me every time I have been lucky enough to see them and hear them. They are loud – but – seriously good with it. They sound awesome as a streamlined two piece.
Little Triggers
Little Triggers offer hope for something fresh, original, but more importantly, for something bold and brash in today’s music scene. Here is a band unashamed of brandishing the rock n’ roll label, bringing a raw quality to the genre that is much missed in modern music.
The Band
I have seen this band a good few times now. They deliver and I will continue to go see them and then continue to write about this duo every time I see them. The Liverpool rockers Little Triggers found themselves at a crossroads after the departure of other members. Thankfully they decided to carry on as a two-piece. Line-up is vocalist/guitarist Tom Hamilton and drummer Jay Radcliffe. They proceeded to doubled down on the band’s strengths – frenetic energy, fuzzy blues licks and rollicking pop hooks.
Little Triggers: The Set
Again – no set list, so some of the titles of the newer material will have missed me. They run on Toms memory, and the set can therefore change every time! Spontaneous rock and roll – I love it! What you get as a member of the audience is pure rock-n-roll. Its all gritty to the centre and not watered down, and its loud! I think I may have mentioned it before! We had new songs and songs from their first sublime album, which I have owned for a couple of years and it gets a regular play. Little Triggers get you hooked and there is no Giving Me Up!
These guys gave the Prince Albert sound system a serious work out. This was the loudest outfit to play there since the end of the COVID19 lockdowns. Well played guys and it sounded bloody great! Tom plays his customised Gibson guitar through three amps I think and using multiple signals. It sounds like a huge 5 piece band, but no, its just the two of them. Rock media were quick off the mark to rightly identify Little Triggers potential. Classic Rock Magazine featured them as both a coveted High Hopes new band and awarding them two Tracks Of The Week. Well deserved I say! So Fine was included in the set with that damn infectious riff and vocal chorus. This really is a solid listen, and was a single release.
No Slowies!
We were being given a masterclass of an intense energy performance and lessons in how to highlight everything by those unique fuzzy blues/rock guitar riffs and not leaving out those unforgettable pop hooks. Loaded Gun, a much more bluesy sound. But as Tom promised no “slowies” tonight. The banter between the two musicians was brilliant and both personalities shone through as they shared a quip or a story.
The set blazed past with an unrivalled energy and sound. Both guys shone with some superb drumming and Toms guitar breaks and solos are off the chart. How his guitar got through the set without need of a string change is a mystery! It Aint Over , It certainly wasn’t! There is a twist to their sound, it’s almost vintage 70s rock which, whilst sounds familiar somehow, will catch you out as the songs twist and turn.
These guys are out to share their vision of restoring hard-hitting guitar music to fans everywhere. Tonight at The Prince Albert, they did just that. This is pure and simple classic hard rock with Jay beating the life out of his kit pounding out those classic drum beats, and tie that up with top vocals and barb laden hooks delivered by Tom.These guys will Burn your ears! These two play at such a fast-pace and with such intensity you have to question how the hell they hammer that Gibson guitar or panel out those fills on the drums so damn fast. It was High Time for this one!
Encore!
This full on set of pure rock and roll extravagance was closing at just under an hour. The crowd in The Albert shower their appreciation and the guys responded by closing with a couple of Beatles covers! This was a new twist for me. Chatting afterwards I told them how much I had enjoyed the encore. They are from Liverpool after all, so why not! And they did the songs justice with a Little Triggers edge. Come Together and Twist and Shout closed the set. Wow. The band had worked hard and our eardrums had also been given a massive work out! Please come back soon!
A Video!
A most memorable end to an enjoyable night. Well played Little Triggers. You can catch up with the wonderful Wild Horse who were support here.
