Descending on Worthing’s award winning The Factory Live for some decadent debauchery came Sex Pistols Exposé! We were in for a night of frantic, furious fun.The Factory Live fell silent as the opening strains of an orchestral and proper version of God Save The Queen boomed from the speakers, this was interlaced with Sex Pistols sound-bites. A really effective and clever way of opening the set. As the band took to the stage a warm cheer from all who had gathered in The Factory Live. Submission was delivered in a broadside of Sex Pistols power.

I noted loads of phones filming parts of the set, not for long though as the beer flying about the place soon put a stop to that! Mobiles were not around back in the day at those infamous late 70s gigs. But, it didn’t take these guys long to fire up old memories of some in the crowd and those instincts just kicked in and the room was a mass of moving and pogoing bodies.

The first thing that struck me, not a minute into their show, was how strong the Sex Pistols Exposé sounded onstage. The music tonight was all bite. I swear you could almost reach out and touch every jagged note coming from the guitar and bass. As “Johnny” made his first sneer of the night and belted out the opening lines, it was clear this was going to be a unique experience.

Sid Vicious when on stage used his bass as a prop and he would spray the crowd with spit, beer and mucus. Tonight’s “Sid” did pretty much the same and giving me wonderful V fingers salute if he saw me lining up a shot. Perfect!  “Johnny” and “Sid” bounced of each other all night. There seems to be a strong bond between these guys. A shout to “Steve” a wonderful authentic display producing a genuine authentic Pistols wall of sound guitar work. “Paul” at the back on the kit worked damn hard on those patterns and fills that we have all grown to love. He was hitting the kit so hard he toppled a cymbal.

This is of course sheer pantomime, but with some added rock and roll language and musical firepower. “Lydon”, even when squatting glaring into the crowd or hunched over a microphone, clutching a bag of crisps concealing his fuel for the evening on stage seems to have “Rotten/Lydon’s” performances down perfectly. He really does sound like him, and damn it yes, even looked like the young Rotten. Superb. It really was like stepping back to 1977.

God Save…

New York and Satellite were in the set. Some fine banter between Lydon and the band and at times with the crowd. Hilarious. The crowd gathered momentum and drew in close as God Save The Queen ripped into the crowd. Well-aimed plastic pint glasses, some empty and some not flew towards the band. Most of the band got wet but Sid and Johnny seemed to be on the receiving end. Sid pausing to dry off the guitar leads. We chatted about that after the set and Sid confirmed they had not experienced that before and he was worried, as electricity and liquid don’t mix well! As the set progressed, the stage area filled up with empty beer glasses and the floor turned into a slippery pit. It was lethal out there!

And now, the end is near…

Stepping Stone, Did You Know Wrong, Belsen led us into one perfectly executed song into the next. The crowd reacted as now expected. Lively! “Sid” gave us Cmon Everybody, Something Else and a stripped back version of My Way. “Steve” then took us through a great rendition of Silly Thing.

“Johnny” was back on stage, a new outfit for the set closing numbers, Holidays In The Sun and Bodies. These two songs reignited the flagging crowd and the mosh pit opened up once again. Pint pots and beer whizzing in the air.

“Hold on give it some bollocks!” We knew it was coming and eventually we get to the opening riff of Pretty Vacant, although without the rasping original vocals of John Lydon, these guys are damn close it still sounds magnificent. The crowd still embrace it these days like an old friend and sing along with that ever so familiar chorus, urged on by The Sex Pistols Expose “Your Turn!”, as “Rotten” is clearly enjoying himself holds the mic into the crowd, “And we don’t care”. Perfect!

If you are easily offended, there is a chance you will be with these guys. They are replicating things from the past but done in punk fun style. There is no political correctness here, its an all out musical assault. There is all the raw energy and fine detail, driving the show and set inexorably towards its burn-out climax, a gut wrenchingly good Anarchy In The UK.

With music that had captivated the crowd, The Sex Pistols Exposé had delivered a great show with some cracking songs from those enigmatic and long lasting icons in British music.

These guys had the look, the sound and played the parts of John Lydon, Sid Vicious, Steve Jones and Paul Cook perfectly. I have met the Pistols, back in the day and I know two of the band, I love the fun take on the originals.

They always provide a faithful rendition of crowd pleasers, and did so again tonight. While there is a demand to hear and see the Pistols live, there will always be a place for a group who reproduce them, and who do it well. The Factory Live was fuelled by wild eyed, roaring, and beer with anarchic energy carried along by the large crowd and The Sex Pistols Exposé. Anyone lucky enough to have been present will I am sure agree that it’ll be an evening that they won’t forget anytime soon.

Six Little Fingers:  Celebrating the songs from one of the greatest of the punk bands: Stiff Little Fingers.

Stiff Little Fingers exploded onto the punk scene in 1978 with their release of Suspect Device; this was followed by a string of punk classics such as Alternative Ulster, At The Edge, Fly The Flag and Tin Soldiers. Although not a tribute act in the truest sense, Six Little Fingers perform with the same power and passion that has ensured these songs (and many more) have stood the test of time over the past forty-plus years. Thankfully we can still hear this music live, up close and personal.

SLF in their youth were firecrackers on stage with lots of jumping and high pace activity. The Six Little Fingers tonight is a more measured affair, but musically it was lively and punchy!

The Factory Live crowd didn’t have to wait too long before Six Little Fingers take to the stage to a massive cheer and cries of Fingers! We were prepared for a night of raw, punk energy as Six Little Fingers bring the timeless anthems of Stiff Little Fingers to life in Worthing.  No messing and straight into Straw Dog followed by Nobodies Hero, a pair of absolute classic songs. What a way to open!

The packed in crowd certainly lapped them up, singing along, fists in the air. No Surrender and Back To Front continues in the same vein. If there were any doubts as to whether Six Little Fingers could cut it live, those concerns were dispelled quickly. And from then on Six Little Fingers rampaged through an interesting and varied set list with songs that the band came together to deliver with an absolute passion.

Hit single At The Edge sounded as sharp as ever whilst Tin Soldier and State Of Emergency were played with just as much fire in the belly as they were when played by SLF way back in the day.

There were plenty of fans favourite bangers ready to fire out in quick succession such as Wasted Life and Gotta Getway. At The Edge was a particular highlight of the night for me, bringing back so many memories. These guys handle it all magnificently.

Alternative Ulster brought the evening to an end showing that SLF music remains as relevant, vital and on point as they did when the original band formed up in 1977.

Six Little Fingers replicated that perfectly.

And Finally,
