This authenticity, and knowledge, can only be achieved from years of actually seeing live, on many occasions, back in the day, and being lifelong fans! You had to have seen live to understand what a ‘Jam’ gig was all about!

They are totally committed to giving an unforgettable, authentic performance with all the energy, passion and style of the Woking 3, and feature their own brass section!……”

Me and The Jam

Now I do have a couple of Jam involvements, I road crewed for them back in the day, they had a couple of hit singles under their belt, Modern World and In the City. They were young, full of energy and angst delivering a non stop barrage of finely written songs. I recall it to be an exciting, hot and a night of pure stripped back performance and energy. I had a chance to chat with Nicky Weller recently and related an episode from when I road crewed for The Jam back in 1977 in Edinburgh. She said she would feed the story back! I have also been lucky to meet up with the guys From The Jam a few times, namely Bruce Foxton and Russell Hastings, so I do have a little history with The Jam.

The Jam’d – The band

And so onto The Jam’d. The band, as their original counter parts is a three piece. We have Luke Gallagher Guitar and main vocals, Chris Malin on a Fender Bass and vocals with John Cator on an impressive Rick Buckler replica drum kit and vocals. Luke Gallagher has only recently stepped into the role in 2024.

The Jam’d are praised for accurately recreating The Jam’s sound and musical style. Their performances are described as engaging and nostalgic, with fans relishing the opportunity to hear their favourite songs.

Everyone seemed to be having a good time, and even if you don’t know much of the music there will certainly be songs you recognise. Their hits include ‘Town Called Malice’, ‘Down at the Tube Station at Midnight’ and ‘Going Underground’, but I also enjoyed some of the ones I hadn’t heard before, and there was a few in the set tonight. These are the sound effects and tracks of many of the lives of those in attendance, as many in the sizeable audience could be heard joining in, dancing and soaking up the atmosphere.

The Jam’d delivered an energetic set list that include both album tracks and a scattering of those wonderful classic Jam hits. We also had at the back of the stage, a brass section, keyboards and percussion with backing vocals – nicely played guys!

The Jam’d performance of Town Called Malice and Beat Surrender were up there. Modern World this song has always been a personal favourite of mine, and seeing it performed live so early in the set was a real treat. It provided an exhilarating buzz that was carried throughout the entirety of the set. The band’s rendition of David Watts, with Chris taking vocals for that one, and Eton Rifles were also fantastic, with the crowd singing along to every word.

The crowd seemed to settle during tracks that may have not been so widely known by me or others in the crowd such as When You’re Young, The Place I Love and In The Crowd then we would get a big hit or two rejuvenating the room with classics such as Strange Town and Precious.

An acoustic guitar version of English Rose was played and dedicated to the World War Two veterans, a nice timely touch from The Jam’d.

One of the highlights of the set list for me was near the end of the evening Down in the Tube Station at Midnight. The band’s performance of this song was particularly poignant, and it was clear that many in the crowd had a deep emotional connection to it, well sung The Factory Choir!

The set closed with a storming version of Going Underground. Every aspect of their live performance felt fine-tuned and cohesive, and the last song of the night confirmed that.

The Jam’d waved goodbye and left The Factory stage, the crowd were still left in awe of the excitement the band brought with them. Those at the front raced to try and grab a set list, a dropped plectrum, or any kind of souvenir from this night.

“Monumental are an up-and coming indie rock band known for their technical brilliance, sharp songwriting and high energy live performances. Hailing from Essex, Finn, Alfie, Nathan and Denny effortlessly blend the ferocity of rock and introspection of mod/indie with meaningful lyrics and melodic basslines. Whatever the stage, they will fill it and deliver a performance that will leave audiences begging for more. With undeniable talent and a growing fan base, they’re quickly making their mark as the ones to watch”.

I love what I do, and I love coming across a band totally new to me, step forward Monumental!

Introducing Monumental

“Each member brings their unique spark to the mix: Finn, the charismatic frontman whose powerful vocals are packed full of soul; Alfie, the lead guitarist and quiet harmonic genius”.

“Nathan, the steady bassist who is always ready to flip the script when least expected; and Denny, the drummer who smashes through every beat like it’s his last”.

Monumental are everything a rock and roll band should be – loud, rebellious and with an unapologetic passion for creating banging music.

Opening the night of live music, up on the stage were Monumental, who started as they meant to continue with their high energy set. This outfit have a thick and meaty, a refreshing new sound allowing the band to display incredible levels of musicianship lashed tightly together with an impressively massive sound. Monumental just burst into a 45 minute performance of tight melodies and music, and the crowd reacted and everyone came alive.

Showcasing some of their songs, the band are bound to have gained some new fans after this memorable performance. The set list took us on a journey of their fairly short creative career so far; ranging from tracks like: Little Bitch, Love Sick, Chapel, and finishing with Reasons ( their latest release).

The talent on stage was unreal, great vocals and guitars, some tight bass playing linking up with some astonishing drumming. It became clear during the set that this monumental performance meant an incredible amount to the band, and it was a privilege to be there to share in this live concert high. The effort they put into their set didn’t go unnoticed and the crowd gathered in closer and enjoyed this performance.

The set is packed tight with some wicked riffs and those delicious pounding drums and bass lines. From their confident stage presence and professionalism, I wouldn’t be surprised if we see a lot more from this outfit as the year progresses.

And so Monumental, here is a band who will make you feel at ease if it’s your first time, and a band you’ll want to see time and time and again. I’d definitely recommend catching them as soon as you can before they come untouchable!
