One of the hallmarks of a Tony Christie concert is the inclusion of his classic hits, which often elicit enthusiastic sing-alongs from the crowd, thankfully the Worthing Factory choir was on hand! His ability to create a communal atmosphere is a testament to his talent as a performer. Over the years, Christie has toured extensively, bringing his music to fans across the globe. Each concert serves as a reminder of his enduring appeal and the timeless nature of his songs. Whether performing in intimate venues or larger stages, Christie proved tonight that he knows how to connect with his audience, making each concert a unique experience. Tonight was an intimate affair, a sold out audience and mostly seated.

Walk like a Panther
Tony opened up the show tonight with a stunning rendition of this and set the mood perfectly for what was about to follow. In 1999 he garnered a new generation of fans when he sang on the single Walk like a Panther, which was written by Jarvis Cocker and recorded by the All Seeing Eye. Christie’s charismatic performance style shines through in this opening song track, making it a highlight of his concert tonight. Walk Like a Panther serves as a reminder of Christie’s ability to create music that not only resonates with listeners but also brings joy and excitement. Live!

We had some covers in the set tonight with a mention of a backstory to each one. Tony mentioned Sammy Davis Jr, the crowd cheered, Tony looked to the side of the stage and asked “Is he here?” and the audience reacted with a large laugh, Tony with a mischievous twinkle in his eye produced a wonderful rendition of Mr Bojangles. I am a hardened gig goer, but the way Tony poured it on for this one, and, with the occasional dance shuffle caused the hairs on the back of my neck to stand on end. It was that good!

I really cannot stress enough how good the musicians were tonight. It really was a top performance from all of the members playing. The excellent sound mix brought all the instruments into the front, blending together to seamlessly match the songs, pop, jazz and a little bit of soul. It all came together pairing with the wonderful vocal tones of Tony.

We also had Las Vegas, Don’t Go Down To Reno, Daddy Don’t You Walk So fast and many more in the first segment of the show. I am not going to reveal the full set list; you will have to go see him to fill in the gaps! No spoilers.
I did what I did for Maria
I Did What I Did for Maria is another standout track in Tony Christie’s discography. Released in 1971, this poignant ballad showcases his vocal prowess and emotional depth. The song tells the story of a man reflecting on his sacrifices for love. Christie’s heartfelt interpretation of the song has made it a classic, it was a joy to hear it live tonight. A timeless piece of music perfectly delivered.

Avenues & Alleyways
Tony Christie is also known for Avenues & Alleyways, the theme from a huge TV show, The Persuaders, a song that showcases his versatility as an artist. Released back in 1973, this track features lyrics that evoke a sense of nostalgia and longing. The song’s melodic structure tonight allowed Christie to fully display his vocal range. The arrangement creating a sound that is both fresh but remaining contemporary. Tonight throughout the set we had the addition of an electric slide guitar which worked perfectly to this one. Another set highlight.
Tony came back after a short break with his fabulous band. Some of the numbers in part two included We Still Shine and the wonderful Jezebel.

We had some delightful covers including a Frank Sinatra number Fly Me to The Moon and a smooth cover of the Neil Sedaka classic Solitaire. Beautifully performed tonight by Tony and his band.
(Is This The Way To) Amarillo

Perhaps one of Tony Christie’s most recognisable songs is “(Is This The Way To) Amarillo.” Released in 1971, the song quickly became a charting hit and remains a staple in his repertoire. Its catchy melody and heartfelt lyrics tell the story of longing and love. The infectious chorus, combined with Christie’s charming delivery, has made it a sing-along favourite at live performances. The song’s upbeat tempo and joyous spirit encouraged the audience to join in. I hadn’t realised that this song was also written by Neal Sedaka until tonight! The song continues to captivate audiences, ensuring that (Is This The Way To) Amarillo will be cherished for years to come, and remains a testament to the timeless nature of Christie’s artistry. The arrangement of the song played tonight was breath-taking.

Thank You For Being A Friend

Sadly, it was nearly all over, we had one more, Christie’s performance of the old Andrew Gold song, Thank You For Being A Friend with its emotional depth and sincerity, clearly moved Tony tonight and the audience. We could feel the emotion as Tony delivered this poignant song. The musician, now 83, recorded the song for Music For Dementia’s Thank You Day campaign. Tony was recently diagnosed with Dementia, he addressed that tonight saying he was going to keep it going as long as he could, to which he received a warm round of applause from the everyone in the room. “I’m basically just getting on with it as well as I can.”. He led the band out for a final curtain call.
Well Tony you made a lot of new friends tonight.

For me tonight was a truly special evening, to hear those songs and to see the man who performed them live on a stage was breath-taking, a masterclass. The band was superb supporting Tony and adapting to each of the songs. The new working of Amarillo tonight was truly special and created a memory that will last a lifetime. Tony did his best at one stage to try and put off his guitarist, great fun!

Her music, which seamlessly fuses country/Americana, indie, alt, pop, and rock, proves that boundaries in music are meant to be broken. A wonderful acoustic version of What’s Up (Four Non Blondes) had the audience taking part and sharing her performance. With her fearless approach to song writing and performances that leave audiences spell bound, KIER has garnered national and global recognition, with airplay on BBC Radio, Country Line Radio, stations around Nashville and others globally. She certainly captivated the audience tonight!

A short but charismatic performance for Kier, she set about to deliver her material to the seated audience as soon as she set foot on the stage. Her instrument and that wonderful voice was as clear as a bell, and the whole experience she provided adding up to a rich and entertaining set. It was definitely a privilege to have Kier and her acoustic guitar at The factory and have her play for us. Lets hope she heads back down this way again soon. A wonderful set.
Now, as she continues her journey as an independent artist, KIER is excited to be working on her second album and is eager to share new music!
