PUNK, STRINGS & BLUES @ THE HOTEL PELIROCCO
PUNK, STRINGS & BLUES @ THE HOTEL PELIROCCO: On Saturday 2nd December there was a big old charity party at The Hotel Pelirocco in Brighton. This was billed as a bit of a special and also a pretty rare chance to see bands perform on the same bill for the evening and it was a fiver to get in.
All proceeds from the night were equally shared between the Clock Tower Sanctuary and Brighton Housing Trust for homelessness in the Brighton area.
The Event – scroll down for the artists!
Headliners for the night were Scene Sussex favourites – Brighton based Dirt Royal. A quick chat before the gig and Charlie was really fired up for this show. New music being created, a second album done and almost dusted, just some final tweaks. They have more gigs in the pipeline.
Dirt Royal stormed through their set. Someone had ignited their fuse and they rocked, rolled and blew the roof off. We were given some of the favourites and some newer material from the new album which should be with us in early 2018. Dirt Royal always deliver a cracking show full of great tunes, banter and a mouthful of attitude. These three were live and dangerous as they barged their way into the crowd delivering the unique and exciting music in their own Dirt Royal style! Dirt Royal were determined to flatten us with a barrage of songs with their amps set to 11! Not content – the crowd wanted more, they got it! The band closed the set with a rip roaring version of the Pulp classic “Common People”. Excellent!
Well played Dirt Royal – cant wait to hear the new album!
These guys blasted at us on all cylinders!
They are an all girl punk band based in Brighton. a slice of pure uncensored female angst and rage “putting the amp in tampon, raising estrogen levels wherever we go”. This lot deliver a power punk riot girl punch, PUSSYLIQUOR were here to raise hell and then some!
The Brighton-based five-piece are putting their message out there with bolted on riff heavy guitars, bass and drums. Together they create a sound and persona that their music delivers straight to your face. No hiding from these guys when they are playing. Go catch them live!
Scene Sussex got there in time to catch a cracking set from Tuval
Tuval is a multi-instrumentalist songwriter who has, in the past four years, independently released three self produced EP’s to online acclaim, whilst honing his craft and attracting underground attention around the country. Supporting the likes of Matthew E White, collaborating with members of Wire and British Sea Power as well as working with producer John Parish, at 21 Tuval has built a strong musical foundation.
His music takes on the ambitious burden of fusing pop music with R&B, Shoegaze and classically backed Strings. Having been compared to Elliott Smith, Jeff Buckley & Slowdive, Tuval’s arrangements are fronted by an innovative band of sonic architects. Chatting with Tuval he was excited to tell us about his next release and a launch party at The Green Door Store on 10/12.
Sadly Scene Sussex missed a top performance from Miles Ward – next time!
Tommy – the event organiser posted the following
“£531.34 RAISED LAST NIGHT!! What an incredible night at Hotel Pelirocco. Massive thanks to all that came and contributed, and huge respect to all the Artists and DJ’s who performed and played for free. We all raised such a spectacular amount of cash for homeless charities the ‘Brighton Housing Trust’ and ‘Clock Tower Sanctuary’ and should all be very very proud of what we did. It’s amazing what we can achieve with music, creatively and love. Excellent behaviour.X”
It was a terrific night and Scene Sussex, well hell, just proud to be part of this fundraiser. Can we do it again soon?
