Salt Ashes: Concorde 2 – 1st August 2018

First I have to try and work out how I have missed seeing these guys before. They are Brighton based and have played many of the live music venues in the city. Missing Salt Ashes will not happen again! An inspired selection to start off the Lout Promotions night.

She lists influences to include Giorgio Moroder, Change, Daft Punk, Linstrøm, Todd Terje, Aphex Twin, Bjork, Depeche Mode, Kate Bush, Radiohead.  That’s quite a list and after seeing her live you can definitely hear those influences.

Taking to the stage to a warm welcome, Salt Ashes proceeded to deliver a stunning live vocal at Concorde 2, as guests of Tiffany, to a fairly busy venue. Many people in the crowd clearly knew her music. Jason was the man controlling the electronics and percussion up there. He produced a terrific sound from his box of tricks and I have to say the Concorde 2 sound mix for Salt Ashes was spot on.

As I say, not having heard these guys before I cant give you a setlist as such. What I can tell you is that the sound they produce is rich and varied. They blend the electronic sound with an out and out pop sound, and other times it is quite dark. The sounds generated and the switch between the various songs is as beguiling to listen to as is is to watch Salt Ashes. She glittered and sparkled with her charisma matching the sparking outfit adorned with shining stars.

At times she even used two microphones both producing totally different sounds to her voice. Brilliant!  We did get some older material, and we were introduced to Girls, the last single release, and also an upcoming release.

Make no mistake, this really was a masterclass performance from these two. Salt Ashes vocal range is astonishing and she really does hit that sweet spot between that elctro, alternative dance-pop and, at times, almost R&B. She was confident and chatted with the crowd and said how much she loved Concorde 2. She owned it up there. A fabulous performance.

They produced for us an exciting pulse of beats, and this was taken up by the crowd as they danced on the floor of Concorde 2, and then all wrapped up with  levitating vocals and heavy mix of synths, tracks and percussion.

Salt Ashes asked everyone to give them a follow etc on Social Media – so, making it easy, here are some links!
