The Sex Pissed Dolls, The Queens of Noise, will shock you, they will grab you, shake you and make you rock and roll. They will mess you up leaving your ears buzzing and feet aching. The Sex Pissed Dolls – What’s not to like?
ThE SeX PiSsEd DoLLs – They’re back!
ThE SeX PiSsEd DoLLs were back! Punk is alive, its kicking and tonight it was loaded up with long hair, lipstick, leather, ripped fishnets and a bucket load of great songs all washed down with a healthy slice of attitude! No latex tonight – it was so damn hot in Concorde 2! All-female, all-action rock band The Sex Pissed Dolls exploded onto the scene late 2014 and have been wowing audiences and festivals with their edgy, high octane performance of classic rock and punk mixed in with their own original material.
Great to see these guys again. Nancy will set your ears on fire and sear your brain with her performance. She prowls that stage peering into the faces in the crowd, she stalks the crowd engaging with anyone who catches her eye, even if I was subject to some Nancy Doll banter! Great fun and all part of the show. Love the Dolls or hate em, you cannot deny they are undeniably entertaining, they have a magnetic appeal that is all their own, they are all fabulous, and boy, can play their instruments! Every time I have seen a show from these guys their tear it up as if their very lives depended on it.They had undergone a few changes in the year since we last met up. A new guitarist and a drummer who was lost, for most of the set, in the smoke chugging out from the Concorde 2 smoke machine.

ThE SeX PiSsEd DoLLs – The Set.
The thumping bass line from Jilly intro’d Pyscho Killers – a great song to open up with, allowing the anticipation of the Concorde 2 crowd to build. So many songs on the set list tonight, some of the old favourites are there, some have gone. Next up was the Pistols – Pretty Vacant and a Ramones mixer of Sheena and Blitzkrieg Bop. Now that’s one helluva way to open up your set! Nancy didn’t wait long to head for the edge of the stage engaging with crowd, the moshers, and dear reader… Me! I did collect a fair bit of Nancy banter. “Ian – do you know where I am? Do you know what I am doing?” and we were off into the Blondie classic Hanging On The Telephone. I am usually quite fierce with banter, but I was not going to engage with Nancy Doll in front of a few hundred people :-).
Next was a self penned anthem Shitty Old Town and its also available on vinyl at the merch desk. A terrific slice of vinyl if I my say so.The set burned away with more classics. The Sex Pissed Dolls themselves are indeed, in the main a tribute act, but not just a Pistols tribute, what they do is grab a handful of just great songs, twist them about a bit and fire them into the crowd.
Looking through their set list for tonight there are not many bands not covered now or, indeed, past set-lists. They ramp it up covering iconic tunes from, for example, Led Zep, The Damned, Sham 69 , Talking Heads, Pulp, Nirvana and The Cult, as well as the anthems you might find on “Now That’s What I Call Punk Anthems” – if such an album existed. There are no fillers from these guys.
One of Nancy’s favourites is still there in the set, Tenpole Tudors Swords Of A Thousand Men. With Nancy pointing the mic into the crowd she invited a mass chorus sing -along! The Dead Kennedys California Über Alles, hit us up next at full tilt. Then someone must have put some nitro in the mix as we had some true floor stompers! Hurry Up Harry, Ever Fallen in Love ( a second Buzzcocks song as guests The Priscillas had dropped a Pete Shelley song into the set.), Teenage Kicks and then that Nirvana injection of rock Smells Like Teen Spirit. Now, make no mistake – these guys mean business, they know their instruments and how to play the hell out of them.
From Nirvana to The Damned as the dolls tore a new one into Concorde 2 with New Rose. They give it as much punk and fizz as the original but with their own take. Brilliantly done!
The set was now heading towards its close as we had Led Zeps Rock and Roll. This was included I think for the first time last year, anyway it is still in the set and is always an unexpected blast to hear these guys play it with some searing guitar breaks and a serious health warning amount of drumming!
Some Pulp was served up and as the final song of the night She Sells Sanctuary started up they let everyone know this was it, last chance saloon for a dance, pogo or just a plain simple mosh!
