Coldplace live at The Factory Live in Worthing 10 June 2022
Coldplace brought with them big songs and big emotions to The Factory Live in Worthing. They did it to such a scale it was almost overwhelming.
Coldplace:

The band are firmly established in many of the UK’s top tribute venues with repeat bookings year after year. They regularly tour Europe and have played in 22 different countries worldwide. Their adventures have lead them to appear on Sky News, BBC Radio One and Two and The Gadget Show and to have played at major festivals alongside Bob Geldof, KT Tunstall, Ringo Starr, The Kaiser Chiefs, Razorlight and Roxette to name but a few.

Coldplace know what is expected from a live tribute show – the accuracy, musicianship, dedication and passion for Coldplay’s music. Their aim, as a tribute to one of the world’s biggest bands, is to capture the feeling of a live Coldplay performance, the music, the visuals, the energy and the atmosphere.

Once again The Factory had pulled in another top night of live music. I had done a bit of homework about these guys… I thought Coldplace might be good, I didn’t realise just how good they would turn out to be. The stage was packed with guitars, a huge open old looking piano with some hi-tech buried within, drums, bass guitars, timpanis and a huge bell. Not much space for the guys as they took to the stage. Also two large smoke machines, two lasers and amps everywhere.

The Coldplace guys opened up with Higher Power and second song in was Clocks giving the sizeable crowd a chance to unleash their vocal talents. Coldplace are known for their elaborate and authentic stage show, sadly no room in The Factory for pyros or confetti canons but we did get Xylobands! These are are radio controlled LED bands which can be used at live events, and notably used on a massive scale by Coldplay. Nice touch fellas, mine didn’t work initially. When I had a minute I dashed off and grabbed a working one. I didn’t want to miss out!

From the get go, you just knew it was going to be a cracking show and the crowd were seriously up for a good time, a dance and a chance to sing along to those classic tunes that were being masterfully recreated. The opening numbers really set the tone for the rest of the evening. “Chris Martin” exerts a lot of energy towards us in the crowd by asking the crowd to sing along, and asking “how you all doing?”. They seemed chuffed that so many people had come out to see them play on a Friday night. Songs like The Scientist, Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall, Magic and Politik were all brought to life. Stunning job Coldplace.

Coldplace have a great catalogue of material to dip into and the set was huge, and a great selection of songs were played for us tonight. They have received praise from Coldplay for what they do. They replicate the sounds and tunes faithfully on all the songs, I only really know the big single releases. All the hits and more were there including Paradise and A Head Full Of Dreams. The crowd was invited to bounce and wave our now flickering Xylobands. Coldplace had certainly warmed up The Factory!
“Thanks for flying the Coldplay flag. Coldplace are pure quality”

Coldplace managed to bring back and ignite memories to those of us in the crowd who have actually seen Coldplay live. It showed the rest of us just what we have been missing, albeit on a slightly smaller scale! At times I reckon that if you turned away or just closed your eyes you could feel you were in front of the originals. Some of the material seemed to be dead ringers for the Coldplay songs. I think there was a backing track used from time to time to boost up the sounds produced. It came together to give our auditory system a superb workout.

It was fascinating to watch how well the singer, Shane Crofts, could copy Martin’s antics and movements. Yes indeed he bent down close to the piano keys and did a great job on the vocals not forgetting his energetic moments! I watched with my eyes half closed waiting for Shane to lobotomise himself on the light rig inches above his head. He is a tall lad! Thankfully he made it unscathed. He is a great frontman.
Shouts to the band, the lead guitar work was extraordinary. It was a masterclass watching those fingers glide over the frets. I complimented him, and the band after their set. The man at the back on drums was a pure workhorse, he put done some serious fills and not forgetting a slot on the timpani and that bell I mentioned earlier. Working in tight unison was the bass. Some stunning playing. The four guys just came together and nailed it. I understand they have been playing together for about 12 years, and that time period has allowed them to hone their skills to an extraordinary level.

Coldplace: The Band
Pounding the drums was Wayne Birch, fretting on lead guitar Dean Stewart, pounding out the bass guitar was Asa Crofts and on the ivories/piano, vocals and guitar strumming was Shane Crofts.
What we got was a truly authentic tribute to Coldplay in sight, sound and a passion that engaged with everyone.
Set highlights, well that would have to be the songs I knew, Yellow, Clocks and a stunning version of Fix You. The night had been split into two sessions with the guys taking a 30 minute time out. They gave us a solid 90 minutes of pure pleasure.

We had my favourite Coldplay track, Viva La Vida as we headed for the set ending. I know this one inside out and I was jumping along with everyone else. This was the song for the Timpani and the massive bell. The guys closed with My Universe. The energy from the band was incredible and to bring things to a close after a huge shout for “MORE” – Something Just Like This and Sky Full Of Stars. Sky Full of Stars had the crowd going for it at full tilt along with the band, lasers, wristbands, smoke and cracking lighting combining to provide a thrilling unforgettable finale.
Coldplace brought with them big songs and big emotions to The Factory Live in Worthing, A huge shout to the sound mix, it was spot on. Clear and all vocals and instruments were mixed perfectly.
I can’t remember many bands who can make 90 minutes feel like 10 minutes or one that made it feel like a gathering of friends. I asked the guys afterwards if it had gone as quickly for them as it had for us, they all agreed it had gone way too fast! Coldplace have captured the very core and essence of what made Coldplay so famous. They projected that same vulnerability of Chris Martin, especially during Fix You. They also put down those unforgettable melodies — and expanded upon them, Viva la Vida and Sky Full Of Stars were mammoth songs but given an extra work over by Coldplace, they did it to such a scale it was almost overwhelming.
When all was done, I think the crowd left happy, drained, relaxed and feeling better. What a great night.
And Finally…
Thanks to Coldplace – you can find them on the internet and Facebook.
