Lout: SlyDigs, Dirty Thrills and Idle Talk.

Slydigs

Slydigs

Lout Promotions had put together a triple band night at Sticky Mikes. The place was buzzing to see Slydigs, Dirty Thrills and Brighton’s own Idle Talk. The venue filled up as each act took to the stage. We were in for a night of mixed music, and we couldn’t wait for the blue lights to dim and the show to start!

Slydigs

Slydigs were fresh from touring with Vintage Trouble in the UK and The Who in the USA! There was going to be a mix of genres – rock ‘n’ roll, dirty blues-rock and Indie/Alternative – when Slydigs, supported by Dirty Thrills and Idle Talk, played Sticky Mikes Frog Bar 01 06 2017.

Band Members
Dean Fairhurst- Vox Guitar
Louis Menguy- Lead Guitar
Pete Fleming- Drums
Ben Breslin- Bass Guitar

The story of Slydigs didn’t start with lonely musicians answering an ad in a newspaper; it didn’t start in some rented practice rooms with four strangers looking at each other, this band sprang from the roots of desperation where only the love of music can pull you through. When a gang of rag tag scallywags looked at their meagre lot and ‘got their shit together.’

Ten years before the guitars, before the gigs, before the guest lists, this band fought laughed and cried together. They are brothers and you can see it, feel it, hear it in every note. They have a zest for life that shines through with every chord they play and sing. Songs that are relevant no matter where you come from or what social class you belong to.

A great set of rock n roll

A good hour or so from these guys – the set included – Light The East, Truth Will be Found, Modern Man, Electric Love and finishing off with Stiff Upper Lip.

Good old fashioned rock’n’roll presented the way it should be all coupled with a cool look from the band. This Warrington outfit will go far, judging by the way the crowd reacted to these guys. They have some big tours under their belt, and this was a stop over in Brighton.
“This tour has been a long time coming and we cannot wait to hit the road in the UK & Europe and showcase some of our new material for you all.”

Dirty Thrills

First, what a great name for a band! Loved it! I have to confirm that Dirty Thrills are indeed an exciting and charismatic Blues-Rock quartet, from London, UK.

Fronted by Louis James the son of ex-Moody Blues singer Nicky James, this unique outfit are bringing back rock ‘n’ roll, with the perfect musical blend of sex, riffs and lung-busting vocals. And again have to agree, Louis vocal range is massive, from a growl to a mirror shattering scream. Not heard anything so vibrant and well, dirty, in a long time. The lighting in Sticky Mikes seemed to be stuck on blue, which actually suited the mood and the sound of this exciting band – at least there was no smoke so we could see the band and the performance.

I hear that this band are making waves of the live circuit, and I see why, in the last 12 months alone they played over 50 shows around the UK and Europe, with an ever increasing reputation as a ‘must-see’ live act. I can see, and hear why. The sound is great, the look is great, hell Dirty Thrills are great!

“Aiming to bring great rock n roll back to the masses.”

IDLE TALK

IDLE TALK

IDLE TALK

Brighton based band Idle Talk were the opening act for this three band night from Lout Promotions.

Idle Talk are a four piece band from Brighton playing dynamic, original songs. Formed in early 2015, the band have been complimented for their tight performance, accomplished songwriting and their dedication to the live energy and spirit of the mod scene which influenced them. Taking elements of indie, soul and psychedelia, their music applies a relatable modern commentary on the everyday frustrations of life. Within their first few months together, the band were invited to support iconic mod legends From the Jam (Sound Affects 35th Anniversary Tour) and Secret Affair (My World Tour 2015) which saw them playing to a sold-out home crowd at Brighton’s Concorde 2 across both dates.

I make no secret of my admiration for this band, usually a four piece, but tonight they played as a trio. Some great songs in their set, which included a new song, and their upcoming single release “Just Another Day”. Idle Talk always deliver, and always gain new followers where ever they play. I had seen the guys play a couple of days before at a gig on Brighton Pier. Great music and a joy to watch them play.
