Brightonsfinest: Live Showcase. The Great Escape.

Brightonsfinest Showcase 2018

Brightonsfinest once again took over the breathtakingly beautiful St Mary’s Church on Saturday 19th May, during The Great Escape Festival. They promised another great day of live music and performers. After the success of last year’s Alternative Escape showcase, they announced a line-up that boasting to be their best yet. It was free entry to all and featured ten fantastic emerging as well as established acts from Brighton and further afield. The sun was beating down on Brighton outside, but, in the cool church, the music was beating!

I managed to visit St Mary’s Church and caught a couple of the first sets and performers.

SJ Brett (The Mojo Fins) hit the altar alongside the extremely brilliant Paul Pascoe, Nick Van Vlaenderen and Oddur Runnarson at 2.20pm sharp.

The Band

They gave us a good 30 minute set from a packed stage area, so many guitars up there! A delight to listen to the guys produce fine music in such a splendid setting. The acoustics were stunning. And it was great to see Paul again with his blue Rick. Thoroughly recommend you see these guys if they play near you.

Next up on Brightonsfinest Escape showcase was Charles Watson. Charles was due to put in two shows this year for the festival. This afternoon he, and the band, looked fabulous in the settings. The acoustics were just terrific for these guys and they drew themselves quite an audience.

The Band

Charles Watson – the London based songwriter/producer and member of indie duo Slow Club and garage-rock super group The Surfing Magazines was on show this afternoon and he and his band delivered a superb performance. The day of this show coincided with the release of his debut solo album, Now That I’m A River.

A fabulous event, meticulously organised by Brightonsfinest. Cant wait to see what they do for us all next year! Brightonsfinest have dropped a review of Charles Watson and his latest album “Now That I’m A River”  here.
