Dove House

I had a text from a friend “come and see these guys”. Camera loaded up Scene Sussex headed for the Green Door Store in Brighton. Scene Sussex continues to bring local bands and talent to your attention in our “Introducing” category. This time the slot goes to the deserving Dove House, a band based in Brighton.

“Straight-up indie rock & roll, savage riffs, heart-thumping bass lines and drum beats that will send you into hysteria. Operating from Brighton, Dove House energise their audiences with explosive grooves and harmonies that promise to stick in your head. This band won’t take you out for a Happy Meal; they’ll take you for a three course dinner at the all-night cafe.

“If you don’t like this, then there’s something seriously wrong with you” – Dave Warren, BBC Sussex.
“These boys are soon to be a household name” – Guy Bellamy, Meridian FM.
Supported fast-rising UK bands Clay and Kassassin Street on their 2015 UK nationwide tour also supported Declan McKenna and Lisbon on their 2016 UK tour in Brighton.”

Band Members

Jack Peacock – Vocals/Guitar
Kieran Philbin – Guitar
Ish Hussein – Bass/Vocals
Steve Ray – Drums

These guys from my first experience seem to be the real deal. They are tight and a great unit to watch perform. Jack is a perfect front man for Dove House. Some superb vocals – light and shade, from soft to in your face rock! He tops that off with some fine fretwork as the band gave us a set of their own material. Ish is a firecracker on bass and looked as if he was having the time of his life up there. Serious bass playing supporting the band and working perfectly with the man at the back, Steve. Kieran also on guitars played a truly stunning variety of guitar techniques, some soft playing to accompany the lighter sections of the set to dirty rock and roll with the moves to match. I liked these guys…..a lot.

I do what I love to do and when you meet and hear a band for the first time that’s when everything clicks into place. These guys were great live, fabulous to watch and so much charisma to capture on “film”. All topped off with some fabulous music. I was only familiar with one of their songs “Teeth” – which we got live.

Dove House live at The Green Door Store.

Just a small clip of Dove House playing at The Green Door Store.

They list their influences as The Strokes, Catfish and the Bottlemen, Queens of the Stone Age, Muse, and Red Hot Chili Peppers.  Make no mistake, these guys can put together a song and play it live. They played for about thirty minutes. I, and the audience, in a fairly busy Green Door Store could easily have enjoyed another couple of songs. Just terrific.
