The Rezillos: pic by Ian Bourn for Scene Sussex
A trip to London to meet up with and watch The Rezillos, and more bands live – whats not to like?
An invite came through to attend a filming session in London at the Water Rats venue. It was for and upcoming broadcast from Vintage TV. Travel ticket purchased, atomic powered batteries fully charged – it was Destination London!
The recordings at the time of writing have not been broadcast, and so no spoilers here as to any of the material performed by the artists involved. You are gonna have to wait and watch – details of how to watch Vintage TV are posted below.
The Rezillos:
The Rezillos burst forth upon the rock scene in 1976, having gathered together at Edinburgh College of Art. Through a shared love of Sixties Garage Rock and the Spectoresque Girl Group glam of The Ronettes and the Shangri Las, The Rezillos found themselves inadvertently caught up in the Punk or New Wave movement. Their debut single, “I Can’t Stand My Baby”, shot them to underground fame initially via airings on John Peel’s radio show. Their classic singles “My Baby Does Good Sculptures”, “Top of the Pops” and “Destination Venus” signalled critically acclaimed milestones for the band. Their landmark album of 1978 “Can’t Stand the Rezillos” reached the top 10 in the UK album chart.
A few photos from the set from these guys. The Rezillos are celebrating 40 years since the release of the first album “Cant Stand The Rezillos”. The band assembled – Fay, Eugene, Jim, Angel and Chris. And they blasted through their songs quickly! Some new theatrics from Eugene, Fay and Jim. Eugene gave some background to that and how it was going to be used in the future! Catch them on tour this year!

A fabulous set from The Rezillos!
Anna Pancaldi
A couple of shots of this artist. A delightful set of fabulous music.
A stunning performance from Anna which the audience enjoyed. Just lovely, just all over a little to quickly! Anna is on Facebook
The Alabama 3
“Alabama 3 is a pop band, a punk rock, blues and country techno situationist crypto-Marxist-Leninist electro band. We never went on X Factor or Pop Idol or Stooge Quest. We did it the old fashioned way; Back in 1996, we threw a big old party, invited all our friends. We took a fistful of blotters and half a dozen disco biscuits and then made it up as we went along.”

These guys gave us a solid 20 minute set. They fused some country/rock’n’roll and humour into a most enjoyable set. Hope to see these guys again. The Alabama 3 are on Facebook.
Tall Poppies
Tall Poppies are eccentric indie-pop four piece fronted by identical twin sister songstresses Susan and Catherine on vocals, bass and guitar with Diarmuid pulling at heart strings on violin and Doug injecting the energy and danceability on drums.

Fantastic live performance from these guys. Tall Poppies are on Facebook
What a fabulous way to spend an afternoon in London. I most definitely would love to go back. The Vintage TV crew were great, really friendly and a joy to spend time with. It was so interesting to see see how the programme was made. The various cameras and sound equipment filled the venue. When you watch the shows they look so slick, but I can tell you this team work hard to deliver what you watch.
